Water Balloon

Posted by mervfrench on August 15, 2011

I spotted this when we were on the bridge in Northam on the morning of the Avon Descent. The Balloons usually lift off somewhere close to town and drift over the river before the start of the race.

The reflection of this balloon in the water really caught my eye.

Balloons Rising

Posted by mervfrench on July 27, 2009

I haven’t had a chance to capture much lately, so I had to go back a couple of months and find something to post. Thought I’d show you the early morning balloon show  that happens most mornings in the Avon Valley when the weather permits from April till October. It all starts around 5.30 am when they start setting up for inflation  in an area that depends on the prevailing breeze on the day.  It takes around 45 min to lay out the balloons and inflate them ready to fly and a flight can last  around 2 hrs on a good day. Its all pretty interesting to watch if you haven’t seen it but they don’t like spectators getting to close, its best to stay on the road close to where they are taking off from.

I know the operators of both companies and I’ve been up a few times. It’s a great way to have a look around.
