Avon Descent Time.

Posted by mervfrench on August 7, 2011

Trundled off down to the Avon Descent on Saturday again this year with Pete Hodgson. Conditions were  perfect  both with the river level and the Saturday morning weather.

I’ve haven’t gone through all my shots so I pulled this one out for a starter.  Looks like they are enjoying themselves.

Pete has posted his  HERE.

Another Day Another Plane.

Posted by mervfrench on August 5, 2011

Visiting another farm today and there was a plane and a strip there as well.  They were about to take off so I waited for them to depart so I could get a shot.

This one is a Cessna 185 Sky Wagon  tail dragger.  These so called  tail dragging types are perfect for small country and station strips with a shorter take off and landing run.

A perfect sunny day for lazing in Canola and taking shots of planes, only to be stuffed up by work !!

Spreading.

Posted by mervfrench on August 4, 2011

Given the good season that farmers are having this year with the rainfall a lot of nitrogen is being spread on crops.  Planes are a quick way to get it on especially if the paddocks are a bit wet to get a tractor onto.

I was visiting a few farmers today and saw this plane in action. it was loading on the farms own strip and it was returning to load every 11 minutes  so I didn’t have to wait to long for it to come back.

I went down the strip a little way and I was just short of it leaving the ground but the wing went over my head as I crouched down to get the shot and the noise and wind rush from the 1150 hp turbo prop was quite a buzz.

A interesting fact about these planes is because they operate at low levels they run on diesel fuel.

You can see the urea spreading from the plane in the last shot.

The river revisited.

Posted by mervfrench on August 3, 2011

I went down to the Northam Weir again this morning to get another shot as last nights was taken in a bit of a rush.

I took the tripod this time so i didn’t have to rest it on a rock.

The river may have dropped a few  mm since last night but it will still be good for the weekend.

The River.

Posted by mervfrench on August 2, 2011

I went down to the town weir tonight to have a look at the river for this weekends Avon Descent.

All looks good at the moment and may even go a little higher by the weekend.

I never had my tripod with me so rested the camera on a rock for this one.

Pete Hodgson also took a shot  today and has just posted his which I didn’t know he was doing.

His shot can be seen  HERE.
