I’ve had a play around with the fish image and come up with this.

I kinda like the end result.

A Couple of Ideas for Tonights Dinner.

Posted by mervfrench on July 28, 2011

Why not try some beautiful dried fish.

I shot these in a Bali market and I’m not sure how you would make anything of them at all, except soup I suppose.

What put me a little off the market was the rats scampering around the place. I imagine they would have a feast after dark.

Clouds or Tree ?

Posted by mervfrench on July 27, 2011

Now this is not a good image , very hard to get a shot out of a plane window at 30,000 ft.

But what instantly caught my eye was the shadow of the cloud over the creek system leading into the river. It looks like a tree with branches and leaves, well I think it does anyway.

Taken somewhere in the north of WA.

Nothing special , but it caught my eye.

110 years young.

Posted by mervfrench on July 20, 2011

While in Bali we hired a minivan and  driver to take us out and up into the hills and on up to the north of the island. It was a good way to go as there were 6 of us and we could all get a guided tour and enjoy the ride without the hassle of driving. A full day cost the equivalent of  A$30 per couple, a bargain.  While we were in the north our driver, Aldi, took us to meet his family at their house.  They were very friendly as you would expect and lived in a modest house in a very small village surrounded by rice and tobacco growing. Aldi’s grandmother lived with them and she is supposedly 110 yrs old.

She happily posed for a photo.

Eating Bali.

Posted by mervfrench on July 19, 2011

You can take your pick of what you eat and where you eat  in Bali as these examples show.

None of it is expensive , but some of it tastes better than others.

We have just come back from 5 days in Bali.  This is the first time we have been and we are probably the last West Australians to go there. We have never had any real desire to go to Bali but friends booked a cheap deal so we decided to see what the whole thing is about.  Now 5 days is not a big test thats for sure but you can get a feel for the place and we did get around quite a bit. We even run into Muzz there, so they will let anyone into Bali it seems.

Believe it or not I’m not one for sitting in a pool and drinking all day ( made up for it at night though 🙂  ) , so we hired a driver and we all went up to the mountains and around the top end area. Our driver even took us to the home of his family and we met  his grandmother who is supposedly 110 yrs old. Unfortunately Helen was a little off color that day so it was a bit of an ordeal for her. We walked the streets and the back allys and went into all sorts of fruit and meat markets etc. We found some great eating places and the food was generally very good.

The trip to Bali was an interesting experience and after  some initial thoughts that the place was pretty ordinary, after a while it did grow on us.  We did quite enjoy our short stay there, although our friends  ended up quite ill on the last day, that seems to part of the deal and you get it for free.

Would we go back again ??  Maybe , never say never, but there is more to the world than Bali.

This is the entrance wall to a place called the Junction or Potato Head, its a bar and food place on the beach at Seminyak , and it is made entirely out of window shutters. I’m sure a lot of you will know this place.

For Fletch…….

Posted by mervfrench on July 11, 2011

Just so he doesn’t feel out on a limb  I ‘ve posted these so Christian doesn’t feel lonely in his endevours.

I bumped into Pete Hodgson on Sat. afternoon and he was taking a few shots around town.

On the rare occasion that I didn’t have a camera with me, I borrowed his G9 and shot a couple of altered landscapes.

I wasn’t going to do much with these but as CF put up an altered shot I thought I’d keep him company.

You can check out his post here
