We are going to Europe on Monday for a little while to have a look around.   I’m not taking 10 kg of camera gear as we are on holiday and want to enjoy things and travel light.   This is my full kit , the s90 and a Gorillapod.

Why, you ask, aren’t you taking decent gear. Well it’s quite simple.  I don’t want the hassle of looking after a heap of expensive gear while travelling, after all it is a holiday. Nothing worse than trying to look after a camera backpack and tripod while your touring the markets or relaxing in a cafe. This little ripper shoots RAW and is 10 mp with the features of it’s bigger SLR cousins. It’s more than big enough to do what we want to do with the images , which will most likely go into a photobook for ourselves.   The gorillapod is great to take anywhere and will be handy I’m sure, it has a ballhead  and  I made an L bracket  for the pano’s   🙂

Posted by mervfrench on August 15, 2010

Spotted this rig parked in town the other day so I had to have a closer look. For some reason, known only to the owners, they had covered the van in old newspapers from the 1950’s, quite unique you’ve got to admit.

What can happen when you cover your van in old newspapers from the 50’s is old guys from the 50’s stop and start reading  the side of your caravan.  This guy was telling me all about the old pictures of the footy and the price of cars, washing machines, radios, and he even knew one of the girls that was pictured on the social page ……. classic eh !!!!!!

TROPPO in the DESERT !!!!!

Posted by mervfrench on August 12, 2010

Now Mark , let this be a lesson to you.   This is what happens when you spend too long in the sun.  This fellow photographer, who will remain anonymous, was delirious from the hot sun.  I had to throw a bucket of  cold water over him and get him out of there !!!!

A shot from a couple of years ago.  I  shot a heap of these but haven’t got the time or  the inclination to  process them tonight but I’ll put them up anyway  just to keep Christian and Mark company.

Hawk Eyes

Posted by mervfrench on August 11, 2010

This was shot out around Menzies north of Kalgoorlie.

Unfortunately I have no Idea what type of hawk or kite  it is and the resident bird expert Dave Bettini is away.  So does anyone want to have a stab ??

Smile ……

Posted by mervfrench on August 9, 2010

We were walking through the bush near Collie last week when this guy hopped in front of us.  He stopped and sat up just in the right spot in the sun, almost begging for his picture to be taken. I had plenty of time to get a couple of shots then he just hopped off. He went onto the golf course and made himself at home so I guess he was pretty happy to be around human activity.

The South African contingent  in the Avon Descent.  As they were coming towards me they were in perfect time as their paddles hit the water, like marching soldiers. It looked very cool.

Avon Descent

Posted by mervfrench on August 7, 2010

I went down and had a quick look at the Avon Descent this morning.   The river is at a record low so it is tough slow going for the power boats and paddlers although the paddlers may have the advantage.

Last year the boats were shooting Extracts Weir, this year they were just  dragging it over.

Down stream  it was a little better with some quicker water. thru this narrow channel was ok.

These guys did it real tough, they broke the leg off the motor and were walking to Toodyay , no fun !!!

Super Pit Revisited.

Posted by mervfrench on August 7, 2010

I started trawling thru the  Super Pit images and thought I’d  have a fiddle with this one.  I like this effect, sometimes it just works, of course other times it just doesn’t .
