IMAGES OF AUSTRALIA.

Lake Hayes.

Posted by mervfrench on July 20, 2010

Lake Hayes is just out of Arrowtown on the way to Queenstown NZ.  It’s a picture perfect area with  some very nice houses lining the shores.  This was shot  around midday and is a hand held 6 image stitch with the 5d2 and 24-70 2.8.

I pulled up on the side of the road and  quickly fired off  the shots and went on my way hoping I ended up with something half decent. I have several other images of the lake  from our last trip there in April but the colour of the trees here is much better.

  1. Cool shot Merv.

It looks so much like Lake Pedder in Tasmania it’s scary!

    Nice work mate!

  2. Very nice Merv. I really like Arrowtown, beautiful little spot.

  3. Wicked shot Merv. Got to love the colour of the trees and that reflection in the water.

  6. I love the symmetry in this shot Merv, and how sharp are those reflections!

A very attractive capture indeed – good one for the tourist bureau to put up in their office. I like the way you’ve introduced some foreground interest to offset the perfect symmetry in the rest of the image, as well as capture the autumn feel. I also like the leading lines of the foreground trees heading outwards to meet the inward diagonals of the hill on the right and the reflection on the left, guiding the eyes back to the centre. Not bad for a side of the road quickie – was there a pub nearby?? 😉

Still reading that bloody art book I see. 🙂

Of course I took all those things into consideration when composing the shot., it’s not as easy as it looks you know, you have be alert and on the ball.
Just a little to the left and it wouldn’t have worked at all. 🙂

No pubs around here , but not far away though.

  8. Well we thought so. But we stayed here and chartered a boat out to Rotto for the day instead so we still had fun. Now, about that beer…..
