Resting Boats

Posted by mervfrench on July 27, 2010

We were driving past the  boat marina just around from the Raffles ( help me here Mark, not sure of the name ) a couple of weeks ago and thought this might make a shot. The dark edges at the top is  from a  overhanging tree.

Driving around on a recent foggy morning  and  noticed a lot of these on the fences and thought  … well why not shoot one , see how it works out.

Lake Hayes.

Posted by mervfrench on July 20, 2010

Lake Hayes is just out of Arrowtown on the way to Queenstown NZ.  It’s a picture perfect area with  some very nice houses lining the shores.  This was shot  around midday and is a hand held 6 image stitch with the 5d2 and 24-70 2.8.

I pulled up on the side of the road and  quickly fired off  the shots and went on my way hoping I ended up with something half decent. I have several other images of the lake  from our last trip there in April but the colour of the trees here is much better.

Another Shot Along The Frosty Walk.

Posted by mervfrench on July 20, 2010

Same deal here, further along the walk and another snap of a -5 frost shot with the Canon S90.  I’d probably never go for a walk at home  if it was zero let alone – 5 , but we really enjoyed this.

Arrowtown Frost.

Posted by mervfrench on July 18, 2010

A shot of the Arrowtown golf course on a – 5 deg morning.

Arrowtown is approx  12 k’s from Queenstown in NZ.  We stayed in Arrowtown for a couple of days last week as Queenstown is full to the brim with partying skiers this time of the year .  On the day we arrived it was minus 12 deg and the days are around  + 5 to 9 deg but surprisingly not as cold as you’d think. I really wanted to see  a 12deg frost as it almost looks like a snow fall the ice is packed so much around things.

This was shot as we went for an early morning walk and was taken with the little Canon S90 compact camera.  It’s a 2 image stitch and has had almost nil treatment , I don’t think it needs any , this is how it looked at the time.

By the way ,that pond on the left is frozen solid.

Mission Accomplished Mark !!!

Posted by mervfrench on July 16, 2010

Hello All.

I have just returned from NZ again as I had to go back for a funeral, second trip there in 3 months.

While I was there Mark set me a mission. I had to get a pic of a Ski Bunnie  outside the Cardrona Hotel.  Not to be outdone, off I went when time permitted and managed to get the shot. Ok , she does work at the hotel , but she does ski so thats good enough for me.  While there I couldn’t resist one of the great burgers on offer not to mention a cold local brew. ( Muzz, what else could I do ? )

Best burger and hand cut chips I’ve had in quite a while, and the  Speights  brew wasn’t too bad either.  Even though the outside temp was only  6 deg. it wasn’t really that cold as there was no wind.

Now my mind is running and sometime , somewhere , somehow, I’ll set Mark a mission in return.
