WW1 Fuel Tanks

Posted by mervfrench on November 18, 2009

This is a quick shot taken a couple of nights ago for Jamie. He was asking me at the pizza night  ( wasn’t that along while ago now )  did I know anything about some old war fuel storage tanks around Northam . Well this is what they are and they are on the side of the road on the way to Muresk College on the south of town about 4 km’s from Northam

Ahh… So they are the mysterious fuel cells, I thought they were ammunition bunkers.

  2. Hi Merv,

Thanks for that mate. I love this ‘request a photo gig’. I honestly thought there were a few below ground as well. Now it would be interesting to find out exactly what they were supposed to be for.

There were a few more of these but they have been demolished over the years , and there may well be some underground.

If you ever go thru Merredin , have a look behind the BP road house there are some huge under ground tanks there.

Ammunition bunker look a little more serious Hodgy, I think there’s a few left near Woodman’s Point, could be good for a shoot one evening.

This image here: …was taken on that very property Merv. The bunkers are directly behind me in that photo (in the valley below, towards the road).
