More from Marble Bar

Posted by mervfrench on October 30, 2009

_MG_4860Well I can’t stop now ,  so here’s three  more from Marble Bar, what a place !!

This one is the grocery store or one of them , and what a store it is.

Packed to the roof with anything you may need…. if it’s open.

You have to be there when the owner decides he wants to open the door , which could be anytime he feels like it.

This one below  is the road into Kitty Cat Gap , the gap can be seen in the distance.

It really is great country, I love it up in the North West.

And here is the gap itself

This one is east of Marble Bar at Kitty Cat Gap a nice little water hole in a gap in the hills there  Nice little place to camp and you’ll probably have it all to yourself as its a bit off the beaten track.

Marble Bar WA

Posted by mervfrench on October 28, 2009

Marble Bar in the Pilbara region of Western Australia is a rather famous or infamous town , depends on which way you look at it

It’s famous for being the hottest town in WA but it also has some of the coldest beer in WA.

To give this little town it’s 5 minutes of fame Dave Bettini suggested a showcase Marble Bar day where several of us have posted shots from the area around Marble Bar.

Here is my shot from the area.

This is Chinamans Pool which is about 10km’s west of the town. This was taken one  evening  in August 08 and we camped here for the night next to the no camping sign.

So for your next Holiday don’t go to Bali, don’t go to Hawaii , don’t go to the Gold Coast , pack up and  GO TO MARBLE BAR.

Here is a panorama image of the town.

You could even live in Marble Bar . Check out the real estate in town and compare the prices to Sydney.

Here are the other shots from the area.

Wednesday Night is Bar night !!!

Posted by mervfrench on October 26, 2009

Do you have any shots from Marble Bar in WA?

Dave Bettini has suggested a mini Marble Bar promo  so I’m in it and we are both going to post  a shot from Marble Bar or surrounding area on Wed. night so if  you have anything  put it up on your blog and we will all have a look and see what  everyone  has  from a rather unique part of the world.

Leave a note here if you like and I’ll link it.

Cheers .

Marble Bar Going to Sleep.

Posted by mervfrench on October 25, 2009

After seeing a pano on Flemming’s blog of Marble Bar it reminded me of this shot that I took there last year.As Flemming explained nothing much happens in Marble Bar ,  it’s a pretty laid back place , but there is plenty to see if you know where to look.

I went up to the lookout on  this evening and decided to try something different . I took  these shots spread over about 10 min or something like that and PTGUI stitched and blended them fairly well I’d say. It was very warm and still so I guess thats why there is little or no cloud movement .

It’s something a little out if the ordinary and I flicked  it off to Flemming in an email just to show him my take on Marble Bar , he encouraged me to post it ,  so here it is.

One good thing at Marble Bar , the beers cold at the pub.

NEW BLOGGER HITS THE AIRWAVES !!!!!!

Posted by mervfrench on October 23, 2009

Jump over to Pete Hodgson’s  new blog that he has just kicked off.

Go easy on the poor guy cause he shoots with a Nikon , but he can’t help that , anyway  it seems to work for him most of the time.

He does build a pretty mean camper if you need one , but I’ll let him explain that later

I’ve got to say that his header is one of the best shots I’ve seen of the Busso Jetty.

The Mill Run

Posted by mervfrench on October 21, 2009

Went for a  drive this evening to see what I could find and I came back with this. It wasn’t really what I set out to get but that happens .

I have a pano of this but I think the single shot is better.

I’ve spent some  time tied on to the top of these windmills changing bearings and oil etc but I’m glad I don’t do it now ,  I think I’ve lost my nerve a bit anyway..

If it’s a calm day and you want some wind to blow  just climb up a windmill and the wind will appear instantly

I suspect Dave Bettini would know what I mean about that.

IT’S STILL SPRING TIME … JUST !!

Posted by mervfrench on October 16, 2009

Spring is still springing but this weekend will test it as it is going to be pretty warm.  Nice time for those of you near the water to head down to the beach I suppose , but I’m staying out around the hay  to see what happens and to catch the fever.

So here’s a spring time shot to contemplate  over the weekend.

This came out better than I thought it would as it was rocking around in the breeze quite a bit.

Hey …It’s hay time.

Posted by mervfrench on October 14, 2009

That time of the year when hay fever sets in rather badly for some people.  I used to get hay fever pretty bad when we used to cut and bale  thousands of little square bales of hay. The fever wasn’t the regular kind but the fever you get when you have to cart all the bales. It was easy cutting and baling but carting them was job nobody liked.  I going to get out and get a couple more of these shots as there are some interesting patterns around.
